Michael Rodríguez

Michael Rodríguez Gutiérrez ( born December 30, 1981 in Cocoa, Alajuela ) is a Costa Rican football player.

Association

Rodríguez comes from near Alajuela and therefore came soon to Costa Rican club LD Alajuelense tip. In 2003 he had his first Erstligaeinsatz and this year he also won his first championship title. In the following years the center-back has become increasingly important for the club, bringing with Alajuelense the championship again in 2003 and the following year the Central American club title, the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

In June 2008 he signed in the U.S. at the Seattle Sounders, who play in the USL First Division. On June 24, he made his first game for the club against the Hollywood United FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

National

His first try for the national team he had on 11 February 2006.

Previously, he was in the 2001 U20 World Cup in Argentina there and at the 2004 Olympics he was in the U23 squad, but did not play.

After he had to stop due to an injury still in the first championship round in 2005/ 06, he played an excellent second half of the season and was nominated at the last minute for the World Cup squad Costa Rica for the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany. Advantage for him was there certainly, that he plays with the central players in the Costa Rican defense, Luis Marín on club together. At the World Cup but he did not play.
