Michael Romeo

Michael James Romeo ( born March 6, 1968 in New York, NY, USA) is an American guitarist and founder of the progressive metal band Symphony X.

Style

At 14, Romeo began to play guitar and was influenced by many guitarists, but also classical composers. The most important influence was Yngwie Malmsteen, whose " neo- classical " style is still to hear from Romeo's music. However, Romeo has developed his own style, which distinguishes him from other musicians of this genre. Very concise for Romeo is its relatively frequent use of so-called " getappter arpeggios ," together with the "classical swept arpeggios ". So he gropes arpeggios not only low, but also ascending, usually in the company of a simultaneous keyboards. He is generally regarded as a guitar virtuoso, which earned him a particular guitarist 's status as musician 's musician.

Typical Scales that uses Romeo, are the Diminished scale, 1st shape ( Listen? / I ), combined with the Phrygian dominant scale ( Listen? / I) and the minor pentatonic scale ( Listen? / I). Solo career

In 1994, Romeo recorded a solo CD called "The Dark Chapter " became aware of him through a Japanese record label. It was then asked if he had a band because that plays a style like on the solo album, which led to the creation of Symphony X.

Michael Romeo is best known for his virtuoso performances, but is also otherwise talented. He produced all albums by Symphony X itself and also shots are taken of Romeo in his home studio.

In a chat with the official Symphony X Fan Club on 20 March 2006, he announced to record another solo album. However, this should be done only after the completion of the new Symphony X album " Paradise Lost", which was released in June 2007.

Involvement in bands and projects

Besides working with Symphony X Romeo collaborated with a number of other bands, artists and projects in the Metal genre. He played in 2004 with the singer Timo Kotipelto Stratovarius one whose solo album " Coldness ". He can be heard also as a guest soloist on the albums "The Universal Migrator Part II - Flight of the Migrator " and " 01011001 " by Ayreon and made a guest post on the album " Forward and Beyond ," the Ukrainian- American keyboardist Vitalij Kuprij.
