In the same year Rösch fifth in the overall World Cup standings. At this time he was regarded by many experts as the greatest talent of the German biathlon and as " Prince ", which could build on the great successes of the generation to Ricco Gross and Sven Fischer. In the following years, however, deteriorated the performance Rösch. In the 2008/2009 season to him only a podium finish in a single race succeeded (2nd place in the sprint in Oberhof ). In the end, it was enough for 16th place of the overall World Cup.

The naturalization took place over a longer period, however, since January 27, 2014 Rösch has the Belgian nationality. Since Belgium has no quota for athletes in the World Cup, needs Rösch either a " wildcard" for launch permissions, or he has to qualify first on the IBU Cup for the World Cup. Participation at the Olympic Winter Games 2014 is not possible for him because he does not yet possess the citizenship of Belgium long enough. The first competitions under the Belgian flag, he played under the IBU Cup in March 2014 in the Italian Martell.
