Michael Turnbull (footballer)

Michael Turnbull ( born March 24, 1981 in Sydney ) is an Australian football player. The goalkeeper took part in the 2000 Olympic Games and two junior world championships.

Club career

Turnbull played between 2000 and 2004 for the Marconi Stallions in the National Soccer League. After the cessation of which he moved to Belgian club Standard Liege, arrived there but not used and left the club after a year after his one-year contract was not renewed. Back in Australia he played in early 2006 for a few months at Kingston City in the Victorian Premier League ( VPL ). Mid-2006, he received an offer from the New Zealand A- League clubs New Zealand Knights. There he came in the course of the season to six inserts.

At the end of the season the Knights were withdrawn from the game and Turnbull moved back to Australia to Sydney United in the NSW Premier League ( NSWPL ). After two months in Sydney, he returned to the VPL and played until the year at the Oakleigh Cannons. In early 2008 he played again in Sydney before moving to their Premier League rivals Wollongong FC.

National

Turnbull took part in Nigeria and 2001 in Argentina at the Junior World Championships in 1999. In 1999, he was the first two games behind Anthony Breaden substitute goalkeeper. Then in the third and decisive group match against Ireland he was in the 0-4 defeat in the target.

In 2001 he was in the first two games against Japan and the Czech Republic goalkeeper, but was replaced in the final group game by Jess Vanstrattan, who also bvei the defeat in the second round against Brazil guarded the gate.

In 2000, Turnbull was a member of the Olympic team, who took part in their own country at the football tournament. He was reserve goalkeeper behind Danny Milosevic and did not at Vorrundenaus used. In qualifying for the 2004 Olympic Games, he came to some inserts for the final tournament, however, Brad Jones and Eugene Galekovic were nominated.
