Michael Walker, Baron Walker of Aldringham

Michael John Dawson Walker, Baron Walker of Aldringham CMG, GCB, CBE, DL (* July 7, 1944 in Harare (then Salisbury ) ) is a former general in the British Army.

Military career

Walker attended schools in Bulawayo and in Bradford. His military career began with a visit to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. In 1966 he was included in an infantry regiment in which he was first platoon leader and lieutenant in 1968. Two years he was stationed in Cyprus before it was used in the Northern Ireland conflict. After a visit to the Staff College in Camberley, he was promoted in 1972 and came to the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom. From 1976 to 1978 he was a company commander stationed in Tidworth in Wiltshire unit. From 1985 he was military assistant to the Chief of the General Staff. He was further promoted and came across stations in Northern Ireland and Gibraltar to a stationed in Senne bearing unit which he commanded from 1987 bi 1989. There he was appointed Chief of Staff of the First Corps until 1991., As commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, he took part in the Second Gulf War. After further promotion, he was commander of the Allied Command Europe 1994 Rapid Reaction Corps. In the Balkans he led Implementation Force, before he began to work after the General Staff. In 1997 he was promoted to General, from 2000 he was Chief of Staff from 2003 and chief of the defense. In 2006, he went into retirement. From 2006 to 2011, Walker led the Royal Hospital Chelsea. He has received numerous awards, including the title as a life peer as Baron Walker of Aldringham.
