Michał Bałucki

Michał Bałucki ( born September 29, 1837 in Krakow, † October 17, 1901 ibid ) was a Polish writer.

After the Barbara School and St. Anne's Gymnasium visit Bałucki initially studied mathematics and physics, later history and literature at the Jagiellonian University. He belonged 1857-1864 to a Schriftstellerguppe to Józef Szujski, Artur Grottger, Jan Matejko and Władysław Żeleński and even debuted in 1859 as a poet. Mental illness interrupted his literary career, and he worked for some time as a teacher in Częstochowa.

Because of conspiratorial activity in Galicia 1863-64 he was in Austria in custody. After his release, he first went to Warsaw and then returned to Krakow. Here he gave the 1867-68 women's magazine from 1869 to 1873 Kalina and the weekly magazine Kraj out. After novels such Przebudzeni (1864 ), Mlodzi i Starzy (1866 ) and Życie wśród ruin (1870 ) he joined the ranks nędze with Błyszczące, Żydówka (1870 ) and his most important work Pan burmistrz z Pipidówki (1887 ) in the group of Polish positivists a. He also wrote poetry, short stories and a regular column ( Tygodnik krakowski ) for the magazine Kraj.

For his comedies, among others, Polowanie na Meza (1869 ), Radcy pana radcy (1871 ), Emancypowana (1873 ), Dom otwarty (1883 ) and Grube ryby (1881 ) he was attacked by critics as an advocate of a bourgeois ideology, his attitude was derided as Bałucczyzna ( Bałuckiismus ). 1901 Bałucki committed suicide in Krakow.
