Michał Bobrzyński

Michał Hieronim Bobrzynski (born 30 September 1849 in Krakow, † July 3, 1935 in Łopuchówko at Murowana Goślina in powiat Poznański the Wielkopolska Region ) was a Polish historian and politician, Member of the Galician Landtag of V, VI, VII. VIII, IX. and X. legislative periods, the Austrian House of Representatives, VII and X. legislature, Kk Governor of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, Professor of History of the Polish and German law at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

Life

Since 1859, he attended St. Ann's School in Krakow, after which he studied law at the Jagiellonian University. After graduation he was employed by the local tax authority, 1872, he received a doctorate in law sciences, a year later he was habilitated.

He continued his studies in 1874 in Berlin gone, then at the University of Strasbourg with Rudolf Sohm. In 1877 he was appointed professor of the history of Polish and German law at the Jagiellonian University.

His students included Władysław Abraham, Bolesław Ulanowski, Stanisław Estreicher, Oswald Balzer, Alfred Halban. In 1878 he was elected a member of the Polish Academy of learning.

His political activity began in 1885, when he was elected deputy of the Galician parliament in Lviv and the Austrian Chamber of Deputies in Vienna.

1891-1902 he was Deputy Chairman of the State Board of Education of Galicia.

1908-1913 held the post of the k.k. Governor of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria.

Michał Bobrzynski was the leader of the Krakow conservative grouping " Stańczycy "

After the First World War, he participated in the creation of the Polish basic constitution.

His last years were spent Bobrzynski in Great Poland, where he acquired the estate in Garby Środa Wielkopolska.
