Michel Desjoyeaux

Michel Desjoyeaux (* July 16, 1965 in Concarneau ) is a French professional sailor, who is one of the best single-handed sailors in the world. Among his numerous victories among the two-time victory in the single-handed race around the world, the Vendée Globe 2000/2001 and 2008/ 2009. Three times (1992, 1998, 2007), he won the French -handed regatta Solitaire du Figaro. Overall, he won more than 25 races. His nickname is "The Professor ".

Desjoyeaux is the son of Henri Desjoyeaux, who started one of the first sailing instructor of Les Glénans and later in La Forêt- Fouesnant the basics of today's marina and sailing training center (see below ) increased. Michel Desjoyeaux and his five siblings had therefore to sail from small to the possibility. Michel was later trained by Éric Tabarly and started production in 1985 together with TABARLY on the Côte- d'Or at the age of 20 years for the first time on a circumnavigation of the globe as part of the Whitbread Round the World Race (now Volvo Ocean Race ) part.

Since 1990 Desjoyeaux denies mainly single-handed sailing regattas and while both 60-foot monohulls and 60-foot trimarans ( such as the Géant ). He won in 1990 but also in the Twostar, a transatlantic race for two sailors, with skipper Jean Maurel.

In May 2007 Desjoyeaux ' new boat Foncia the boat was left open class 60 to water; It is named after the French financial group Foncia, which sponsors Desjoyeaux ' team. DC in his first race under Desjoyeaux came with the boat in June 2007, a new race record for monohulls in the Record SNSM ( Saint- Nazaire - Saint- Malo ); later in the year Desjoyeaux won on the boat the Transat Jacques Vabre 2007. 2008 / 2009, he sailed the boat in the Vendée Globe to victory. In 2009, he won on the stage Regatta Istanbul Europa Race from Istanbul via Nice and Barcelona to Brest ( Brittany ). The boat was later sold to the Spaniard Iker Martínez and Xabi Fernández, who sailed there in the Barcelona World Race 2010/11 under the name Mapfre to second place. Desjoyeaux had already constructed at this time the next boat leave ( Launched September 20, 2010 ) and again baptized in the name Foncia.

Desjoyeaux lives and trains in La Forêt- Fouesnant in Brittany, where Marina Port la Forêt is the National Training Center for long-distance sailing competitions in France by his father ( with ) justified. Michel Desjoyeaux is married and has three children.
