Michel Wolter

Michel Wolter (* September 13, 1962 in Luxembourg City) is a Luxembourgian politician of the Christian Social Party (CSV ). He is married, has three children and lives with his family in Hautcharage (French Hautcharage ).

He grew up on the Alzette in Esch. His secondary studies he completed in Esch and in Echternach. From 1981 to 1985, he successfully studied economics at the University of Paris I ( Panthéon- Sorbonne ).

In 1984 he was elected at age 21 to today youngest MPs on the list of CSV in the Luxembourg Parliament. It was 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2013 again elected directly.

Between 1985 and 1990 he was president of the CSJ, the youth organization of the CSV. From January 1988 to July 1992 he was a member of the municipal council of Esch -sur-Alzette, and after change of residence in the council of Nidderkäerjéng ​​January 1994 to January 1995.

On January 26, 1995 Wolter was appointed Minister of the Interior, Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reform. After the national elections on 13 June 1999 Wolter was again Minister of the Interior, with advanced skills in the areas of Planning, Police and Water.

After the national elections of 13 June 2004 Wolter retired at his own request from the government and moved back into Parliament, where he held the position of Group Chairman of the CSV to 2009. In November 2009 he was elected to succeed François Biltgen for party president of the CSV. Party president he was until 2014.

From January 2006, Wolter was again a member of the Municipal Council of Nidderkäerjéng ​​. Mid-December 2009 came Wolter succeed Jeannot Halsdorf as mayor of Nidderkäerjéng ​​. After the local elections in 2011 and the merger of the municipalities Nidderkäerjéng ​​and Küntzig he was mayor of the municipality Käerjeng.

Professional Wolter was successively from 1986 to 1995 in the area of ​​managing of captive reinsurance companies, a trust company, as well as the professional reinsurance operates. Since 2006 he has held a number of directorships in Luxembourg companies.

In 2006, Wolter had launched an initiative to amend the Luxembourg national flag.
