Michele Novaro

Michele Novaro ( born December 23, 1818 in Genoa, † October 21, 1885 in Genoa) was an Italian composer. From his pen the national anthem of Italy " Fratelli d' Italia " is derived.

After studying vocal composition in Genoa is convinced the Liberals in 1847 as a singer in Turin, where he composed about ten nationalist texts for the freedom of Italy and raised funds for Giuseppe Garibaldi. As a businessman, completely untalented, he died impoverished in 1885 in Genoa, without drawing from his famous songs profits. He is buried in monumental cemetery Staglieno at Genoa, next to the tomb of the Italian independence fighter Giuseppe Mazzini.
