Michele Rosewoman
Donna Michele Rose Woman ( born March 19, 1953 in Oakland, California) is an American jazz pianist and composer -.
Rosewoman began at the age of 6 years to play the piano and studied as a teenager with pianist Ed Kelly. After working on the west coast as a musician and led his own groups, she moved in 1978 to New York City. There she was soon working with musicians from the avant-garde jazz as Oliver Lake, Billy Bang, Rufus Reid and M -Base activists such as Greg Osby.
Beginning of the 1980s was Rosewoman already internationally known, played a first own plates and also appeared at major European festivals. With her quintet Quintessence it is active for twenty years; played there in the past Osby, Steve Coleman and Gary Thomas. With their big band New Yor - Uba leads to music that is influenced by the cult of the Yoruba Orisha and Latin American music. Furthermore, it plays in Robin Eubanks Trio EB 3
