The Sternblütige saxifrage is a perennial plant that reaches the plant height to 30 inches. It grows in dense loose grass and forms at the foothills of leaf rosettes. The stem is erect and glandular or glabrous. The basal leaves are 50 millimeters long, 20 millimeters wide, oval to wedge-shaped, fleshy, hairy shiny and sparse or bald. At the top they are coarsely toothed. The inflorescence bears 3 to 15 long-stemmed flowers. The 5 to 6 petals are 3-7 mm long, lanceolate and white, with yellow spots at the base. The sepals are lanceolate, reddish and repulsed during the flowering period and lying close to the pedicel.

Bloom time is from June to September.

Occurrence

The Sternblütige saxifrage comes from the mountains of Spain over the Alps and the Carpathians to the Apennines and the Balkan montane to subalpine meadows in spring, on stream banks and in moist debris at altitudes 1200-3000 meters in front. The species is common in the Alps.

Subspecies

This type splits into three subspecies:
