Microbolometer

A microbolometer is a thermal sensor for the detection of electromagnetic radiation. In addition to the detection of millimeter-wave, UV and X-ray radiation, it is mainly used for detection of medium and long-wavelength infrared. As a two-dimensional focal plane array they provide the image sensor of thermal imaging cameras dar.

Use microbolometer as well as the bolometer change their electrical resistance due to the absorbed them and leading them to a change in temperature radiation.

They are mainly used as detectors in wavelength ranges above about 5 microns, are no longer available for the uncooled photodiodes. Microbolometer can at room temperature - without expensive cooling - to work, but require temperature stabilization.

Automotive application, inter alia microbolometer in astronomy and thermal imaging cameras.
