Micropoecilia

Micropoecilia is a subgenus of the genus Poecilia within the live-bearing tooth carp ( Poeciliinae ). Some authors Micropoecilia is listed as genus, the exact status is disputed.

Features

There are small, the famous Guppy similar fish. The animals reach a length from 1.6 to 5 cm. Males have a gonopodium to the reformed anal fin and are conspicuously colored than their female counterparts.

Dissemination and lifestyle

The species of the genus are native to Guyana, Brazil and Trinidad. Over the life of the fish, little is known.

System

The subgenus is the sister group of guppies ( Acanthophacelus ) within the genus Poecilia. After the last major revision of the live-bearing tooth carp by Lucinda P. (2005) Micropoecilia was being conducted as a genus, but already recognized that it can not be a monophyletic group in the genus Poecilia. Bragança, Costa and Gama (2010) described the to Micropoecilia to computing Poecilia sarrafae, which Micropoecilia became synonymous with Poecilia. 2012 followed the first description of Poecilia Waiapi by the same authors.
