Mid Ocean Meeting Point

The Mid Ocean Meeting Point (MOMP ) ( German " meeting place in the middle of the ocean " ) was the English name of a transfer point for the guarding of convoys.

In the First and Second World War, the Allied merchant ships that sailed across the Atlantic were combined into convoys to protect them better against enemy attacks can.

In the eastern half of the Atlantic, the British Royal Navy had to take over the guarding and in the western part of the U.S. Navy and the Canadian Royal Canadian Navy.

For organizational reasons, a meeting place in the middle of the Atlantic has been set, where the guard between the navies has been replaced. The banded to protect warships hitherto guarded Marine returned to their bases and their positions in the convoy were taken from the ships of the other Marine. During the Second World War, the MOMP was between 26 and 22 longitude.
