Mid Sweden University

Mittuniversitetet ( to German as " middle - University ", official English name Mid Sweden University ) is a Swedish university with three locations in the northern Swedish city Sundsvall, Östersund and Härnösand.
She is a member of the University of the Arctic.
The University started its operations on 1 July 1993 as a university under the name Mitthögskolan on after they had emerged from the merged universities in Sundsvall / Härnösand and Östersund, whose history dates back to the early 1970s. On 1 July 1995, the medical colleges in Sundsvall / Örnsköldsvik and Östersund were incorporated into the University. By 1 January 2005 the establishment of the Swedish government received given the right to be allowed to call university.
The four sites have different academic profiles, which is reflected in the subjects traditionally offered at each campus. While the focus at the site Härnösand on the humanities and teacher education is, especially in technical and scientific courses are offered in Sundsvall. The Campus Östersund offers study opportunities in the fields of tourism, health care, social work, environmental science and public administration. However, the described compartment concentration is less pronounced than in the past in the present. Further study opportunities exist in the fields of information technology, media studies / journalism, business administration, sports science and languages .
Rector of the University is Anders Söderholm. It offered 40 different courses with around 500 individual courses. The University is organized into two faculties of humanities and engineering and natural sciences. The facility employs 831 people, including 54 professors and sat 2007, about 740 million crowns to.

The name of the University is derived from its location near the geographical center of Sweden.
The campus in Sundsvall, christened " Åkroken " was honored with several architectural awards, most recently in 2005 with the Städtebaupreis " Charter Award" by the Congress for the New Urbanism.
