Culture and sights

Church

The holy church dedicated to St. Pankratii in Midlum certainly stems from the 12th century and is built of field stones. The notable features of the baptismal font, the medieval stalls ( about 1550-1600 ), an epitaph from 1611 and a relief filling the pews of 1622 should be mentioned.

Windmill

The Midlumer mill, a so-called gallery - Dutch, is one of the few still functioning windmills of this type in the district of Cuxhaven. It was built in 1857. The last active Müller operated the mill until 1955, with wind power. However, the milling industry has become increasingly less profitable and could soon no longer stand up to the modern industrial mills. In 1998 the mill was sold to the community. This could be restored thanks to generous funding from the ground up. She is now a protected monument.

To maintain and operate the mill as well as their Backhaus a mill club, namely the " Association for the Preservation of Midlumer mill " in 1998, was founded. The mill club operates and maintains the mill on its own. Even marriages are possible, because the mill is the official branch of the registry office of the velvet municipality Wursten.
