Midwest City is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. 2010, the city had 54,371 inhabitants, making it the eighth largest city in the state.

The largest employer in the city is the United States Air Force, which runs south of the Tinker Air Force Base. A General Motors plant was closed in early 2006. The Midwest City Hall Arboretum is also a botanical garden in the city resident.

History

The town of Midwest City was founded in 1942 by WP " Bill" Atkinson, who built housing for the military base. The place name is related to the Tinker Air Force Base, which formerly known as Midwest Air Depot was designated. The city was right next to this military airfield outside the military zone, built. In 1951 the city was awarded " America's Model City".
