Mie University

The Mie University (Japanese三重 大学, Mie daigaku ) is a national university in Japan. It is located in Tsu in Mie Prefecture.

History

The university was founded in 1949 by the merger of three state schools. The three were:

  • The normal school Mie (三重 师范学校, Mie shihan Gakko, founded in 1874 ),
  • Youth Normal School Mie (三重 青年 师范学校, Mie his shihan Gakko in Matsusaka, founded in 1925 ), and
  • The agricultural and forestry business school Mie (三重 农林 専 门 学校, Mie Norin Gakko Semmon, founded in 1921 ).

The university was opened with two faculties: Liberal Arts and agricultural science. In 1966, the Faculty of Liberal Arts was renamed the Faculty of Education and in 1969 they moved to the present Kamihama campus. In 1972, the prefecture of Mie University was (三重 県 立 大学, Mie kenritsu daigaku; faculties: medicine and fisheries) to Mie University merged. All faculties are in Kamihama campus are located in the former headquarters of the agricultural and forestry business school.

The Agriculture, Forestry Technical School Mie was one of the first Japanese schools that had the degree of Civil Engineering for land improvement. The school had first to meliorieren their own farm; their campus was at sea ( Ise Bay ), and the soil from the farm at that time was salty and wet. With the 1923 drilled large fountain and the electric pumps, the soil was improved. The farm attracted 1970 in the other place to build the new school building (medicine and fisheries).
