Mieussy

Mieussy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Mieussy is on 636 m above sea level. M., northwest of Cluses, about 30 km east-southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is located in a valley of Giffre, in the Savoy Alps at the foot of Pointe de Marcelly, in Faucigny.

The area of ​​44.45 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Savoy Alps. The main settlement area is the basin of Mieussy. It is traversed from east to west from Giffre, which has a roughly 1 to 2 km wide flat valley floor. History

The territory of Mieussy was already inhabited during the Neolithic and Roman times, which could be proven from various finds. In Mieussy there was the Roman colony Miocircum, which developed into the present-day place-name. In the 12th century Mieussy was the center of a parish.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Gervais was built in flamboyant Gothic style. In the villages Ley, Saint- Denis and Quincy, as well as Saint- grass are chapels. Also in the Grotte du Jourdy above Mieussy is a chapel since 1881. The old town centers are characterized by houses in the typical Savoyard style.

Population

With 2124 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Mieussy one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 20th century, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1901 were still in Mieussy counted 1949 inhabitants). Since the mid- 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area again.

Economy and infrastructure

Mieussy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by the agriculture and forestry village. Today there are various operations of small businesses. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work. In recent decades, the arena has developed on the plateau at Sommant together with the adjacent Le Praz -de- Lys (municipality Taninges ) into a tourist resort, which located in the municipality hired a significant economic upturn. Mieussy specializes in both summer tourism as well as on winter tourism ( mountain railways and ski lifts).

The village region has a quite well developed. It lies on the main road D907 which leads from Annemasse after Taninges. Further road links exist with Mégevette and Le Praz -de- Lys.
