Miguel, Duke of Braganza

Maria Miguel Gabriel Rafael Gonzaga Carlos Egídio Constantino Francisco de Paula e de Assis Januário of Braganza, led by the Portuguese legitimists than 22 Duke of Braganza ( born September 19, 1853 in Klein Heubach, † October 11, 1927 in Seebenstein, Austria ), was the eldest son of king Michael I of Portugal and his wife Adelaide of Löwenstein -Wertheim -Rosenberg and Portuguese pretender.

Life

After his studies in Metz and Innsbruck served Duke Miguel of Braganza II as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian army and retired at the entrance of Portugal into the First World War from active service. Since October 12, 1917 he held the rank of imperial Feldmarschalleutnants held. He was involved from now on in the supra-national Order of Malta. Since he was not allowed to enter Portugal, he lived with his family in Prälatenbau of Bronnbach Monastery (now Wertheim ), from 1917 mainly on the ( defunct ) New Palace to Seebenstein in Vienna, where Miguel II died in 1927.
