Miguel Macedo

Miguel Bento Martins da Costa de Macedo e Silva ( born May 6, 1959 in Braga, Portugal) is a Portuguese lawyer and politician of the Partido Social Democrata. Since June 21, 2011, he heads the Ministry of the Interior in the cabinet Passos Coelho.

Life

Training

Miguel Macedo, was born on 6 May 1959 in the northern Portuguese city of Braga. He earned his law degree with the usual in Portugal Lizenziatur ( licenciatura ) from the Universidade de Coimbra. He then worked as a lawyer.

Party Political Career

Macedo is a member of the Portuguese Social Democrats or the party youth Juventude Social Democrata since his youth.

Macedo first ran in the parliamentary elections in 1987 for a mandate in the Fifth legislature the Assembleia da República and achieved this as well. Since then, Macedo Member of Parliament was today - apart from the period 2002 to 2005 ( IX. legislature ). He is always fed through the electoral district of Braga.

His first office had Macedo during the second government of Cavaco Silva 1990-1991 as Secretary of State for Youth under the Minister António Couto dos Santos. Then he took between 1993 and 1997 the duties of a city council in his home city of Braga.

Between 2002 and 2005, while the coalition government of the PSD and CDS -PP, he assumed the office of Secretary of State for Justice. Following which, after Luís Marques Mendes took over the chairmanship of the Social Democrats, he was elected General Secretary of the party. This office he held until 2007. After the party delegates Pedro Passos Coelho had elected chairman in 2010, Macedo took over the duties of the leader of the Social Democrats in the Assembleia da República. He held up to the 2011 parliamentary elections this office.

On 17 June 2011, the previously victorious in the general election Pedro Passos Coelho Miguel Macedo suggested as one of four social democratic ministers in front of his cabinet. President Cavaco Silva then appointed him on 21 June 2011 as the Minister of the Interior.
