Mihnea cel Rău

Mihnea cel I. Rău ( German Mihnea the Evil One; * to 1462, † March 12, 1510 in Sibiu, Kingdom of Hungary, now Romania) was a son of Vlad Dracula († 1476 ) and from April 1508 to October 1509 voivode of Wallachia.

Life

Mihnea came from the first marriage of Vlad III. with an unknown nobleman from Transylvania and was born around 1462. His short reign was marred by power struggles with the boyar families of Wallachia, from which he also received his nickname " the evil one ". With the support of the Ottoman Empire, they finally succeeded to overthrow Mihnea and to force them to flee to Transylvania. He was assassinated on March 12, 1510 by a hired assassin, who acted on behalf of the Craioveşti family clans, before today Evangelical parish church (Romanian Biserica Evanghelică ) Sibiu. In this church he found his final resting place.

Marriages and descendants

Mihnea was married twice, his first wife, with Smaranda Zápolya (Hungarian Szapolyai; † before 1485 ), in a second marriage with Voica din Izvorani ( † after 1510). The first marriage produced sons Milos and Mircea, the second marriage of the daughter Ruxandra.
