Mihran Damadian

Mihran Damadian (* 1863 in Istanbul, Ottoman Empire, † 1945 in Cairo, Egypt Kingdom ) was an Armenian writer, teacher, freedom fighter and political activist.

Life

He was educated in the Armenian Catholic Moorat - Raphaelian School in Venice, and became a teacher in the district of Sason. Together with Medzn Mourad he led the Kumkapı demonstration and resistance of Sason 1894. He was arrested and brought to Istanbul. Mihran Damadian was a noted Hunchak activist and later a member of the Reform Hunchak, which became the Rankavar. He was also chief negotiator in talks with the French authorities; he suggested that France could take over the League of Nations mandate of the independent Cilicia 1920. On August 5, 1920 Damadian called the independence of Cilicia as an autonomous republic of French protectorate.

His great-grandson is the opera singer Gérard Papazian.
