In Italy, Schumacher won just ahead of Häkkinen. When the U.S. Grand Prix Hakkinen fell out while Schumacher won. For now eight points behind before the race in Japan Hakkinen had to win in order to have a chance at the World Cup before the last race in Malaysia.
