Mike Büskens

Mike Büskens (2013 )

Michael " Mike" Büskens ( born March 19, 1968 in Dusseldorf ) is a former German football player and current coach.

Playing career

Büskens first club as a youth player was DSC Dusseldorf Alemannia eV, where he played 1974-1981, before moving to Fortuna Dusseldorf. From 1986 to 1987 Büskens played for VfL Benrath before he returned to Fortuna Dusseldorf. There, in the 2nd Bundesliga he gave on 18 February 1989, his pro debut against FC Schalke 04 at the end of the season he rose to Dusseldorf on in the 1st Bundesliga. After playing five years with the club, he moved in 1992 to league rivals FC Schalke 04, where he had his most successful period. He won the 1997 UEFA Cup and in 2001 and 2002, the DFB Cup. In the second half of the 1999/2000 season he played for half a year on loan at MSV Duisburg, but returned after the descent of Duisburg in the 2nd league back to FC Schalke 04.

For the 2002/03 season Büskens was playing assistant coach of the second team of Schalke under Gerhard Kleppinger. For health reasons, however Büskens could actively deny any play from the second half of the season 2003/ 04. By end 2005, 04 Büskens had to undergo a total of seven knee operations after the plan of the patellar tendon in a preseason game with the U -23 FC Schalke. Overall, he was ten times knee surgery. He also suffered in 2005 after an intestinal infection, a life-threatening sepsis, due to which he had to be temporarily artificially ventilated.

Coaching career

After Kleppinger was resigned to the 2005/06 season as coach of Schalke's second team, Büskens took over as coach. From 13 April 2008, he led, together with Youri Mulder as interim coach the first team. After the end of the 2007/ 08 Büskens and Mulder moved back into second place and support from July 1, 2008 the new coach Fred Rutten as an assistant coach. After a leave of absence from Rutten on 26 March 2009 Büskens initiated with Mulder and Oliver Reck to the start of work of new coach Felix Magath training the first Schalke team. Since Magath his two assistant coach Seppo Eichkorn and Bernd Hollerbach from VfL Wolfsburg brought, Büskens left the FC Schalke 04 after the 2008 /09 season.

From 27 December 2009 Büskens was the successor of Benno Möhlmann head coach for SpVgg Greuther Fürth. After 15 years as part of the 2nd Bundesliga Team 2012 was promoted to the Bundesliga. Shortly thereafter, he extended his contract with the Fürth until 2013. On February 20, 2013 Büskens was on leave. At this point, the climber was after 22 games with 12 points on the bottom of the table.

For the 2013/14 season Büskens took over the Zweitligaelf of Fortuna Dusseldorf. He signed a contract until 30 June 2015. November 30, 2013, was " according to an analysis of the current sporting situation " on leave. The Fortuna at that time was on the 15th place in the table in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Others

Büskens is a trained chef. He is married and has two daughters. He lives with his family in Gelsenkirchen.

In October 2012 Büskens was " more fair " for his exemplary fairness awarded by the DFB with the DFB medal, which, according to DFB exterior is that it " welcomes before each home game of the SpVgg Greuther Fürth players and coach of the visiting team with a handshake ".
