Mike Hallett

Mike Hallett ( born July 6, 1959) is an English snooker player and sports commentator.

Career

Hallett won the 1975 English U16 Championship. In the snooker season 1980/81 he then gave his debut on the professional tour. His biggest success he achieved at the Hong Kong Open in 1989 with a 9:8 final win over Dene O'Kane.

Other successes he has achieved at the Masters: Both 1988 and 1991 he reached the final, but was beaten each against Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry. While he lost to Davis with 0:9, he led against Hendry already 7:0 and 8:2, until he eventually lost with 8:9.

Hallett twice reached the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship. After the snooker season 1998/99 he finally had to leave the main tour. For the season 2004 /05 he tried his luck again though, but could not earn enough world ranking points to stay on the main tour.

During the 2011/12 season Hallett also participated in five PTC tournaments in addition to the World Seniors Championship 2011. He was able to play it three times over the pre-qualification in the round of the last 128, but failed each to Ronnie O'Sullivan, David Gilbert and Jamie Cope.

Hallett is also active as a snooker commentator for the Snooker Premier League for Sky Sports and for most Main Tour tournaments on Euro Sport.
