Mike MacDowel

Michael George Hartwell "Mike" MacDowel (* September 13, 1932 Great Yarmouth ) is a British racing driver.

Mike MacDowel was an amateur racer, who played his first race on the little Lotus sports car. In 1955 he celebrated ten victories in national races. In 1956 he was at Cooper factory driver and drove the sports car.

In 1957 he had his only appearance in the Formula 1 World Championship. At the French Grand Prix in Reims, he went with a factory Cooper T43 at the start. In half of the race he had to drop off the car at Jack Brabham, who thus was seventh. End of the year, he finished second in the Prix de Paris at Montlhery.

After many years of absence MacDowel returned in 1968 and won in 1973 and 1974, the British Hill Climb Championship. Even as a 60 -year-old drove the always sporty and fit MacDowel hillclimb race and starts today at events for historic racing cars.
