Mikhail Gnessin

Mikhail Fabianowitsch Gnessins (Russian: Михаил Фабианович Гнесин; * 21 Januarjul / February 2 1883greg in Rostov-on- Don, .. † May 5, 1957 in Moscow) was a Russian composer.

Gnessins studied in 1899 Georgi Conus in Moscow and from 1901 to 1909 in Saint Petersburg in Nikolai Rimsky -Korsakov, Glazunov and Anatoly Ljadow. After a stay in Germany he taught from 1911 to 1913 in Jekatarinodar and until 1921 in Rostov. After a stay in Palestine he taught from 1923 to 1935, which was founded by his sister Music School in Moscow composition. Until 1944 he worked at the Leningrad Conservatory, then to 1951 again at the music school of his sister. Gnessins composed works for orchestra, for chorus and orchestra, chamber music, piano pieces, choruses, songs, theater music and folk song arrangements.

Gnessins sister Jelena Gnessina founded in 1893 in Moscow, a private music school, now Gnessins Institute. She composed etudes and pieces for piano children.
