Mikhail Minin

Mikhail Petrovich Minin (Russian: Михаил Петрович Минин; born July 29, 1922 in Wanino, Pskov province, † January 10, 2008 in Pskov ) was a soldier in the Soviet Army.

He hoisted during the Battle of Berlin on the evening of 30 April 1945, the first Soviet flag on the Reichstag building. The trailing on the famous photo on the Reichstag in Berlin, May 2, 1945 scene was officially attributed to the Soviet side the Georgian Meliton Kantaria. Minin was honored in 1995 by President Boris Yeltsin.

After the war, graduated from the Kuibyshev Minin Military Academy for Engineering Corps and served until 1969 when the Strategic Missile Forces, most recently as a lieutenant colonel.

He was " For merits in combat" was awarded the Red Banner, the Order of the Great Patriotic War ( twice ), the Order of the Red Star and the Medal and was an honorary citizen of the city of Pskov.
