Mikóháza

Mikóháza is a town in Borsod -Abaúj -Zemplén.

Geographical Location

Mikóháza lies in northern Hungary, 100 kilometers from the county capital Miskolc. Neighboring municipalities are Alsóregmec 4 km, 6 km and Vilyvitány Széphalom 5 km. The nearest town is 5 km from Sátoraljaújhely Mikóháza.

History

The name of the village goes back to Miko, who received this fiefdom of Elizabeth, the wife of King Ladislaus IV in 1273. The inhabitants lived mostly by the forest industry.

Mikóháza were not occupied by the Turks. As a result of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, the population was divided according to the creed. The first church was built in 1769.

Later settled here also Ruthenians, German and Jews.
