Mildred Dunnock

Mildred Dorothy Dunnock ( born January 25, 1901 in Baltimore, Maryland, † July 5, 1991 in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts) was an American film and theater actress.

Life

Mildred Dunnock grabbed before her career as an actress the profession of a teacher and received only early 30s first role on Broadway offers.

In 1944 she was in the horror film The Invisible Man takes revenge for the first time on camera and celebrated only a year later, in 1945, her breakthrough as a film partner of Bette Davis in The Corn is Green. In the course of her career, which extended over a period of five decades, it was primarily as a guest star on television series in front of the camera, the least of which were known in German-speaking countries.

1952 Dunnock was first nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress - and for her work on The Death of a Salesman. Only five years later, in 1957, the actress was nominated a second time for the Oscar in the same category, this time for Elia Kazan's Baby Doll - Do not covet the other woman. She was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award. However, each time you were denied the awards.

As Theateraktrice she remained a wide audience in 1956 as Big Mama in the Broadway production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in memory, in the film version, however, Judith Anderson played this role.

Mildred Dunnock led from 1933 until her death in a Hollywood ratios uncharacteristically long marriage when she married Keith Urmy. With him she had two daughters, Linda ( b. 1934 ) and Mary ( b. 1935 ), of which Mary is but deceased early.

Today, a star on the Walk of Fame to the actress, who died at the age of 90 of natural causes.
