Military Medal (Spain)

The Military Medal ( Spanish Medalla Militar ) is a Spanish military bravery award, which on June 29, 1918, Alfonso XIII. King was founded by Spain in one stage. She has since been awarded regardless of rank to members of the Spanish armed forces, and under the same conditions to foreigners for outstanding achievement from the enemy.

Stylish look and manner

The medal in its first form had a diameter of 42 mm, the present measures 37 mm. It shows on their obverse in a 25 mm by measuring midfield a female figure with angel wings, reminiscent of the goddess Victoria. It is based there with the left hand on a shield with a central lion's head. In her right hand she holds a laurel wreath. The whole symbolism plays on the shore of a sea, the horizon just as the sun sets. In the waves of the sea, the manufacturer name Egana is imprinted. The edge of the coin is a cartridge which side shows two lions and its top center of a forts from the arms of Spain. Connected these symbols of a left-side and right-side laurel wreath of oak leaves, both of which unite at its lower side in a banner. On it VALOR AL MUY distinguido stands. ( For exceptional bravery ) The reverse shows the unaltered edge of the medal as on the front. Instead of the inscription on the obverse, the banner but it is empty and is subsequently engraved with the base of the ceremony. In the middle section the coat of arms of Spain can be seen, which is depicted in front of a John Eagle with halo. Left and right of the eagle, the two Pillars of Hercules. Was driven medal at the upper left side of the chest Beliehenen to an initially 28 mm, now 35 mm wide white band, the yellow hem is 1 mm wide. In the middle of the tape, a red-yellow- red vertical center stripe is woven, which reflects the national colors. The center red is 4.5 mm wide.
