Military Ordinariate of South Africa

The South African Military Ordinariate is the Military Ordinariate in South Africa and is responsible for the South African armed forces.

History

The South African Military Ordinariate cared for members of the South African armed forces of Catholic religious affiliation pastoral. It was Pope Pius XII. created as a military vicariate on 17 May 1951. After a mutual decision between the Holy See and the Republic of South Africa is the seat of the South African Military Ordinariate in Groenkloof. It was elevated to a diocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution spirituality Soldiers curae on July 21, 1986.
