Milk watcher

A milk monitor is a tool for cooking, which, placed in a pot with liquid (usually milk), the boiling announced by a loud clatter and thus gives rise to take the milk before boiling over the stove.

Made is the guardian of porcelain milk, heat-resistant glass or stainless steel.

There are various forms of milk guards, for example, a 1 cm thick disc of 8 cm in diameter and having inwardly curved circular surfaces.

In the space between the pot bottom, and convexity of the boiling point of the liquid is reached earlier than in the remaining convection due to a broken container. Steam fills this space, lifts the disc at escaping upwards and the plate drops back to the bottom of the pot, wherein the noise is generated.

For a more uniform clatter of milk has guards on either side of a notch on the edge, which is preferably used by the escaping steam as a path.

In southern Germany, especially in Swabia, the milk guard is also called " Klepperle " (in reference to the noise in the boiling liquid ). In East Germany, rather the term milk guardian is needed. In Switzerland, you will often see the term " milk Thumper" used.
