Mill pond

A mill pond (also mill pond or mill pond ) is a still body of water that serves as a water reservoir for the operation of a water mill.

Such a mill pond is usually an artificial accumulation (reservoir ) of a small watercourse (such as a stream or channel ) from which a derivative ( Mühlengraben, mill creek, Leitgraben ) leads the water to the water wheel.

Many such lakes that served as mill ponds in the past, bear the name "Mill Pond ", such as in Varel, Stolzenau, Floßdorf, Lübeck, Reinbek or fronds. The Alster in Hamburg, was dammed in the Middle Ages to the operation of a water mill.
