Milo I of Montlhéry

Milon I, known as le Grand / the Great ( † around 1102) was a gentleman of Montlhery and Bray- sur -Seine from the house Montlhery. He was a son of Guido I of Montlhery and Hoderine of Gometz, his brother Guido was the red of Rochefort. In contemporary chronicles he is called Milon de Bray.

It is unclear how Milon came to his nickname, presumably due to extensive Handel and intrigue. Abbot Suger wrote that Milon was a go-getting disturber of peace against King Philip I.

Married was Milon with the Viscountess Lithuise of Troyes, with whom he had the following children:

  • Guido II Trouffle († 1110 ), Lord of Montlhery
  • Milon II († probably 1118), Lord of Bray- sur -Seine and Montlhery, Viscount of Troyes
  • Emmeline, ∞ with Hugh II of Bardoul Broyes
  • Rainald († 1122), bishop of Troyes
  • Elisabeth, ∞ with Theobald of Dampierre -sur -Aube

Together with his eldest son and his nephew, Erhard III. Le Puiset, Milon took part in the First Crusade. Because his son in 1098 deserted during the siege of Antioch, Milon participated with his brother Guy of Rochefort on the subsequent Crusade of 1101 to restore the family honor. He traveled with his nephew Joscelin of Courtenay and the viscounts of Bourges Eudes Herpin. He died in the Holy Land, probably in the second battle of Ramla.
