Milwaukee Deep

The Milwaukeetief is a marine deep in the west of the Atlantic Ocean and is the deepest point of the entire Atlantic Ocean and the Puerto Rico trench. It is estimated differently with a depth between 8,380 m to 9,219 m.

Geography

The Milwaukeetief is located in the Puerto Rico Trench, which extends north of Puerto Rico parallel to the north coast. It is exactly 122.3 km north of Punto Palmas Altas on the coast of the municipality of Manati.

Name

Named is the Milwaukeetief after the U.S. cruiser USS Milwaukee, from which the depth was discovered on 14 February 1939.
