Minahassa Masked Owl

The Minahassa Barn Owl (Tyto inexpectata ) is a species from the genus of barn owls (Tyto ). She lives endemic to Sulawesi. Sympatric species occurring on the island are the Celebes mask Barn Owl ( Tyto novaehollandiae rosenbergi ), a subspecies of the mask Barn Owl ( Tyto novaeholandiae ), and one subspecies, the Graseule (Tyto longimembris papuensis ). The habitat of the Barn Owl comprising the dense forests of the island to the coastal lowland forests. They are found in two protected areas. The National Park Bogani Nani Wartabone on the Minahassa peninsula and the National Park Lore Lindu in central Sulawesi. Like other owls also live this way mainly of small mammals, including bats probably.

Features

The Minahassa Barn Owl has a wingspan of about 240-250 mm and a tail length of about 100 to 120 millimeters. The back color is a reddish brown to black without drawing brighter areas of the face veil is bright red. The tail is marked by (usually eight) black ribbons, which are speckled russet. The female differs from the male in that the black color is not particularly remarkable, and instead the body is almost completely rust- brown.
