Mindru Katz

MINDRU Katz ( born June 3, 1925 in Bucharest, Romania, † January 30, 1978 in Istanbul, Turkey) was an Israeli pianist of Romanian origin.

Life

The talent Katz 'has already been recognized in his childhood by George Enescu. He became a student of Florica Musicescu, Dinu Lipatti and also at the Radu Lupu studied and graduated in 1947 at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music Budapest from. In the same year he made his debut as a pianist with the Bucharest Symphonic Orchestra. In 1959 he emigrated to Israel, where he had great influence on the level of pianistic culture and performance practice as a pianist and teacher. Among his students at the Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University was one among other Benjamin Erlich. At the first International Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition in 1974, he was next to Arthur Rubinstein, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Eugene Istomin and another member of the jury.

Katz worked with great conductors such as Sir John Barbirolli, Sergiu Celibidache, Antal Doráti, Josef Krips, Lorin Maazel and Alfred Wallenstein and major orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. His repertoire included next to the piano works of Bach and Beethoven piano concertos, Aram Khachaturian and the Prokofiev and Sergei. With Henryk Szeryng he took up the violin sonatas by César Franck and Johannes Brahms.

Katz died on January 30, 1978 during a performance in Istanbul on stage.
