Mingren

Mingren ( Chinese:名人; Pinyin: Míng Rén ), literally means " man of genius " such as meijin in Japanese and myungin in Korean. It is the name of a professional Go Tournament in China, which is the counterpart to the Japanese Meijin tournament of the Nihon Kiin.

Overview

The Mingren is from Chinese Go Association, the Zhongguo Qiyuan and the Chinese People's Daily, the Renmin Ribao, organized. 64 players compete each year to gain one of the 16 seats in the first round. In these two players will be determined in the knock-out system, which then determine in a series of three games, the challenger of the current title holder. The final title fight is a tournament series in five games, between the title holder and challenger. The prize is worth 25,000 CHY ( EUR 2,500 ).
