Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (Malaysia)

The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities ( MPIC ) or Kementerian Perusahaan dan Perladangan Komoditi ( German: Ministry of plantations and extractive industries ) is a State Department of Malaysia. His duties are to promote the plantation industry - mainly palm oil, rubber, precious woods, cocoa, tobacco, kenaf, pepper and sago.

History

Recognizing that the promotion of basic industries would be the basis for the economic development of Malaysia, the then Ministry of Primary Industries was founded in 1972. The responsibilities of the former Ministry was on the development of tin ore and rubber industry. Later, the order of the Ministry has been extended to include other industries such as palm oil, cocoa, mineral resources, pineapple and tobacco. As part of the restructuring, the Ministry received its present name in 2004. The pepper industry - previously under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture - came here to MPIC, while the industries that dealt with forestry, natural resources and earth sciences, to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ( Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ) yet.

Tasks

In addition to its original mission - to promote the plantation industry agreement with the major branches of palm oil, precious woods, natural rubber and cocoa - they relate MPIC also with the development and promotion of the cultivation of kenaf, sago and jatropha, which could contribute in the future to the economic growth of Malaysia.

With the aim of extractive industries through the production of high-quality, commodity-based assets to more dynamic and competitive, the Ministry for the period 2011-2020 has a strategy, the National Commodities Policy developed, whose main points are based on the following economic policy papers:

  • 5-year plan for Malaysia ( 9th and 10th Malaysia Plan);
  • National Agriculture Policy Three ( NAP 3);
  • 3rd Industrial Master Plan 2009-2020 ( IMP3 );
  • National Timber Industry Policy 2009-2020 ( NATIP ) and
  • National Biofuel Policy

Minister

Responsible Minister since the May 16, 2013 Douglas Uggah EMBA. He is assisted by six public corporations and five advisory bodies to the side.

The predecessor of EMBA was dated 10 April 2009-2013 Bernard Giluk Dompok, who had taken over the office of Peter Chin. Peter Chin was after the creation of the Ministry in 2004, its first minister.
