Mintimer Shaimiev

Mintimer Scharipowitsch Shaimiev or Mintimer Şärip Uli Şäymiev ( born January 20, 1937 in Anjakowo, rayon Aktanysch, Tatar ASSR, today Tatarstan ) is a Russian- Tatar politician who was from 1991 to 2010 President of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation. Previously Shaimiev was since 1989 the first secretary of the Tatar Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, that is the supreme Soviet Tatarstan. Mintimer Shaimiev comes from a Tatar peasant family. After completing his education in 1954 he began studying in the technical department of the Agricultural Institute of the Tatar capital Kazan. After graduating in 1959 he worked in the field of agricultural mechanization. His political career began in 1969 with his appointment as Minister for Amelioration and Water Management of the Tatar ASSR ( TASSR ). In 1983 he was for a short time deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers TASSR and rose in the same year one of the Tatar area secretaries of the Soviet Communist Party. In 1985 he was Chairman of the Council of Ministers TASSR. 1989 to 1990 he was First Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party in the territory TASSR and 1990 was elected chairman of the Supreme Soviet Tatar. During this time, Tatarstan declared its sovereignty. During the period of disintegration of the Soviet Union, he was elected on June 12, 1991 as the first President of the Republic of Tatarstan. Family

Shaimiev is married and has two sons. Radik Shaimiev ( known in motorsport as Radik Shaymiev ), the younger of the two, was founded in 2003 Autocross European champion. Ajrat Shaimiev ( known in motorsport as Ayrat Shaymiev ) is even triple Autocross European champion ( 2002, 2004 and 2005) and played together with Tatarstan Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov, all races of the FIA ​​European Rallycross for drivers in 2007.
