Minuscule 3

Minuscule 3 ( in the Gregory- Aland numbering ), ε 253 ( Soden), is a Greek Minuskelhandschrift of the New Testament on 451 parchment leaves ( 24.5 x 17.5 cm). Using palaeography was dated the manuscript to the 12th century. The text is written in one column 24 lines per page.

Description

The Code contains the entire New Testament without the book of Revelation in the order: Gospels, Acts, Catholic Epistles and the letters of Paul. It also contains the Epistula ad Carpianum, lists of κεφαλαια, κεφαλαια, τιτλοι, the Eusebischen canon, the Apparatus of Euthalius as well as some pictures. It also contains signatures of a later hand.

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Byzantine text-type. Aland places it in a category V. It was compiled by Wettstein.

History

Radulph or Roland de Rivo handed over the manuscript to the monastery of the Dominican Order in Basel. It was used by Erasmus in his second edition of the Novum Testamentum of 1519. The Code is now in the Austrian National Library ( Cod Suppl. Gr. 52) in Vienna.
