Mircea Rednic

Mircea " Puriul " Rednic ( born April 9, 1962 in Hunedoara ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach. Since October 2013 he trained KAA Gent.

He played a total of 83 matches and 561 games in Divizia A, the Süper Lig and the Belgian First Division. Rednic took part in the European Football Championship in 1984 and the Football World Cup 1990.

Playing career

Mircea Rednic began in 1976 with the football matches Corvinul Hunedoara. At age 17, he was accepted for a year in the soccer school of Luceafarul Bucharest. In the second half of the season 1979/80 Rednic returned to Corvinul back in the Divizia B and managed in the same year the promotion to the top Romanian football league. He debuted on August 2, 1980 in the victory against AS Armata Tirgu Mures. Under coach Mircea Lucescu said he witnessed the beginning of the 1980s, the most successful period of Corvinul that by participating in the UEFA Cup, culminating in the 1982/83 season. After the season Rednic moved to Dinamo Bucharest, with whom he won the 1984 and 1990 Romanian Cup and in 1984, 1986 and 1990 the Romanian Cup. National

Together with his team-mates Ioan Andone and Romulus Gabor Rednic debuted on November 11, 1981 in Bern during the match against Switzerland in the Romanian national football team. All three had been appointed by the new coach Mircea Lucescu, her former player-manager of Corvinul Hunedoara, into the squad. In 1984 he took part in the European Football Championship 1984 in France and played in all three games. With the Football World Cup 1990 in Italy Rednic was also in the squad and came in all four games for use. In a total of 83 international matches, he scored two goals. In addition, he played 11 full internationals for the Romanian Under-21 national football team, with whom he won bronze in 1981 at the Junior World Cup.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career Rednic began his coaching career in 2000 at his former club Rapid Bucharest, where he had stepped back in December 1998 a game. In October 2000 he succeeded Anghel Iordănescu and led the club at the end of the season in the UEFA Cup. However, he was replaced by Viorel Hizo and hired the league rivals FCM Bacau, who had bought a place in the Divizia A FC Baia Mare to its sporty descent. However, already after the first round of the 2001/02 season went their separate ways again.

On 16 May 2002 Rednic returned as successor to the sacked Viorel Hizo back to Rapid and won the Romanian Cup. He could try to improve in the following season and won the championship in 2003 this success. According to the first half of the season 2003/ 04 he received an offer from abroad and moved to the Saudi Premier League with Al- Nasr from Riyadh. After a few months he returned to Romania and was already on 29 March 2004 successor of Nicolò Napoli at Universitatea Craiova. On 14 January 2005, the second league leaders FC Vaslui Rednic committed as successor to the sacked in November 2004 Ioan Sdrobiş. At the end of the 2004/ 05 season was the victory, and that promotion to the top Romanian league, which Divizia A, firmly. Rednic then left the club, since he was present an offer from a Belgian club, however, was taken on 13 September 2005 as the successor of Basarab Panduru again under contract. He led the upstart from last place to the league before his former club Dinamo Bucharest signed him on 12 June 2006 as head coach. In the season 2006/ 07 he won the Romanian football championship with Dinamo. After a mixed season start and the off in qualifying for the Champions League Rednic resigned as coach of Dinamo on September 2, 2007. From 9 October 2007 to 21 March 2008 he was again coach of Rapid Bucharest. Following riots in the derby against Steaua Bucharest he resigned.

On 1 April 2008 it was announced that Rednic will train after the 2007/08 season again Dinamo Bucharest. He took office in June 2008 and gave it in June 2009 end of the season because of disagreements with the club's management again. By the end, he coached Alania Vladikavkaz in the Russian 1st Division, but missed promotion to the Premjer League ( later the club moved to FK Moscow ). In the summer of 2010, he was active in Azerbaijan as manager of FK Xəzər Lənkəran. With this, he was vice-champion in 2011 and won the Azerbaijani Cup. After five winless league games in a row Rednic had to give up his post on December 4, 2011, however. On 29 March 2012, he released the three days earlier dismissed Portuguese Toni from as coach of the Romanian first division Astra Ploieşti.
