Mirella Freni

Mirella Freni ( born February 27, 1935 in Modena, Italy, actually Mirella Fregni ) is a major lyric soprano.

She made her debut in 1955 as Micaela in "Carmen". She has a wide repertoire and was funded by Karajan. She became famous in roles such as Violetta ( " La Traviata"), Tatyana ( "Eugene Onegin " ) and Mimì ( " La Bohème" ), as well as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro in the film adaptation of Jean -Pierre Ponnelle.

She was often a partner of Luciano Pavarotti, whom she had known since childhood. Their two families were known to each other. Among other things, she performed at his side the opera " La Bohème " on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its first performance. In September 2007, she commented on the live broadcast of the funeral Pavarotti in the RAI.

She was married in second marriage with the Bulgarian- Austrian bassist Nikolai Gjaurow.
