Mirgorod (Gogol)

Poltava (Russian Миргород ) is a collection of short stories by the Russian poet Nikolai Gogol. It is named after the Ukrainian city Myrhorod (Russian Poltava ) named, near which he spent his childhood and youth. The story collection is subtitled narratives that form the continuation of the "Evenings at the Hamlet in Dikanka ".

The collection consists of the following short stories:

  • Landowner from ancient times ( Старосветские помещики )
  • Taras Bulba ( Тарас Бульба )

This amendment describes the basis of the literary figure of Taras Bulba, and his two sons Ostap and Andrei lifestyle and plundering of the Ukrainian Cossacks in the 16th century Poland, culminating in the campaigns of Bogdan Khmelnitsky in the years 1648-1652.
