Miria Obote

Miria Obote Kalule ( born Miria Kalule; * July 16, 1936 in Kawempe ) is a Ugandan politician.

She studied at Makerere University and later worked in the Ugandan Embassy in New York. In November 1963, she married the then Prime Minister Milton Obote.

The widow of former President Milton Obote returned in October 2005 after 20 years in exile in Uganda back to her husband to bury. On 28 November 2005 she was elected as Chairman of the Uganda People's Congress, the party that had founded her husband. She was one of six candidates for the presidential elections on 23 February 2006, in which they could win but only 0.82 percent of the vote.
