Mismatch repair cancer syndrome

The Turcot syndrome is a Canadian surgeon after Jacques Turcot (1914-1977) named, rare genetic condition in which it comes to the high incidence of polyps in the colon and brain tumors.

As a cause for the emergence of mutations in the tumor suppressor gene APC (as with the familial adenomatous polyposis ), and in the coding for DNA mismatch repair proteins and hMLH1 genes hPMS2 (as in hereditary non -polyposis colorectal cancer, HNPCC) have been discovered.

The polyps are premalignant lesions of colon cancer. Because of the similarity of the diseases, the treatment is similar to that in HNPCC.

Compare also: hereditary tumor diseases.
