Miss Cyprus
Star Kypros ( the Greek spelling Στάρ Κύπρος ) is an annual national beauty contest in the Republic of Cyprus. The organizer of the contest preferred for international communication, the English version of the title, Star Cyprus.
The winners will receive the title Star Kypros, the runners-up Miss Kypros, Miss Carlsberg, Miss Mediterranean. Today Star Kypros represented her country at the Miss Universe. Miss Kypros competing for the title of Miss World, Miss Carlsberg to Miss Europe and Miss Mediterranean to Miss International.
2009 the title Miss Carlsberg and Miss Mediterranean were not awarded. Dimitra ( Demetra ) Olympiou took part in the Miss Universe 2010, Chrystalla Tsialli in the Miss World 2009 and Andrea Kkolou in the Miss World 2010. The national competition in 2010 was apparently not performed.
Origin
Cyprus claims to be the oldest competition of its kind, since Aphrodite was born there myself - the ancient goddess of beauty and love. The Judgment of Paris between the three most beautiful goddesses of Olympus - Hera, the wife of almighty Zeus, goddess of strength, Athena, goddess of wisdom and valor, and Aphrodite - gave the Trojan prince of a golden apple as a prize. As far as the legend, as described by the Greek author Homer in his Iliad.
The first modern Cypriot beauty contest was held in 1956, at that time the title of Miss Kypros ( Μίσ Κυπροσ ) / Miss Cyprus was awarded. 1971 took over the Carlsberg brewery and funding of events, and since 1988 it will take place as part of the Carlsberg Festival. Since 1989, the Election Miss will be broadcast live on television.

At this beauty contest only take part candidates from the Greek-speaking southern Cyprus. The Turkish Cypriots in northern Cyprus have two beauty pageants for women and a competition for men. See Miss KKTC.
